Em média 200 amostras foram feitas numa área de aproximadamente 1300 Km2 de água aberta. Cinco campanhas de campo, planejadas a partir desses estados, foram realizadas para coleta de dados limnológicos, espectrais e batimétricos. A análise de dados históricos de cota permitiu definir quatro estados relevantes para o sistema. O sistema composto pela planície de Curuai e rio Amazonas, no Estado do Pará foi selecionado como área teste. Para testar essa hipótese, formulou-se como objetivo principal o desenvolvimento de uma metodologia que permitisse integrar informações de diferentes naturezas para delimitar e caracterizar as massas de água presentes na planície ao longo do ciclo hidrológico.

In a first step, we limit our investigations to tidal dynamics. As none of the existing models for this region would fit the actual needs of the project, a specific new generation model has been implemented.The model is based on the hydrodynamic finite element model T-UGOm. This requires realistic estuarine modelling in this area strongly forced by tides and river discharge. The AMANDES project aims to study transports from the Andean mountains to the Atlantic Ocean through the Amazon system. The results also indicate that the ADCP can help solve the problem of scatter associated with the rating curve for Manacapuru. However, the final water discharge results (93 × 103 m3.s−1 for the experiment period) showed that the ADCP offers fundamental advantages in terms of measurement reproducibility (less than 1%), speed (only 30 min for a 3000-m transect), reduced number of people (two) and safety. The ADCP results differed from the other methods by about 9%. During this period, 34 water discharge measurements were completed, whereas only a maximum of only 3 measurements would have been possible using traditional methods, due to operational limitations. The HiBAm research team tested the ADCP over a 4-day period at the Manacapuru section on the Solimões River. The purpose of this article is to report an experiment performed with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler-ADCP, under tropical environmental conditions, aimed at testing and evaluating the ADCP and comparing the results obtained with those provided by traditional methods used in the Amazon River Basin.

Cette méthode indiquerait un débit interannuel à l'embouchure de 208 000 m3s-1, en y incluant les 6 000 m3s-1 que représente la dérivation de l'Amazone vers le Rio Pará (et l'Océan) par les furos, canaux qui coulent dans l'ancien bras de l'Amazone. Une seconde méthode se base sur dix séries de mesures de débit effectuées à l'embouchure de 1997 à 2008 qui se corrèlent très bien avec les débits observés à Óbidos. Le débit moyen interannuel à l'embouchure serait de 205 000 m3s-1.

Après avoir défini, le plus logiquement possible, la limite Est du bassin amazonien, l'étude établit le bilan hydrologique de l'Amazone depuis Óbidos jusqu'à l'océan, sur la période 1972-2003. Cette étude détermine, par deux méthodes, indépendantes mais complémentaires, le débit moyen interannuel de l'apport liquide de l'Amazone à l'océan Atlantique.
